|Services for Benjamin Spencer Phillips will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, at Live Oak Community Church, 8 Heyman Lane, Alexandria, LA 71303 in Alexandria, with Pastor Ken Satcher officiating. A reception will be held at the church after the service. Burial will be at Roselawn Cemetery in Glenmora.
Mr. Phillips, 78, of Alexandria, died June 24, 2013 at The Oaks Care Center in Pineville.
A native of Glenmora, Louisiana, he graduated from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge with a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism. He worked as a Technical Editor of weapons manuals with the U.S. Naval Ammunition Depot in McAlester, Oklahoma. After retirement, he returned to Alexandria, and was a member of Live Oak Community Church for many years.
He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Lynn Phillips. Survivors also include many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Phillips was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Yvonne Phillips, his son, Joseph Claude Britt, his parents, Leon Bunyan Phillips and Linnie Scott Rountree Phillips, and siblings Leon B. Phillips, Jr., Ruth Rose Phillips Whitten, Dorothy Linn Phillips Scott, Robert Rountree Phillips, Donald Frank Phillips, and Virginia Phillips.
Spencer was well known for his sense of humor, and always had a way to lighten the spirits of those around him. He was a kind and caring man and will be dearly missed.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Oasis Hospice and The Oaks Care Center for their dedication, kindness, and care.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Live Oak Community Church in Alexandria.
